Learn Ways to Celebrate Val-Day Without Leaving Home
On Valentine’s Day it’s hard
to not feel like you should be doing something extravagant with your
Someone Special. But sometimes a night in is just what the doctor
ordered, especially after a long week. Factor in how packed
restaurants get (and how expensive), and you can build quite a case
against heading out on February 14th. Are we talking to you? Here are a
few creative ideas you can use to celebrate with your Valentine, no
jacket or car keys required.
1. Host a double feature: Perhaps this isn’t the most original way to spend an evening at home, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be satisfying. If you and your boo struggle to pick something to watch together, V-Day should be the day you both get to win. Instead of compromising, each of you can choose one show or movie you would like to watch together. For extra fun, make it a kissing game: Every time Rory and Lorelai mention coffee, or each time Chewbacca moans at Han Solo, you make out.
2. Make your own treats: Work together to create a delicious dinner or buy all the sweet supplies you need to make a little tray of chocolate-covered pretzels, strawberries, and marshmallows. Plus, if you end up having a food fight, you can help each other “clean up.”
3. Play a game: Board and card games are always fun options, especially if you can figure out a way to play a strip version. Exercises such as The Five Love Languages quiz are great ways to deepen your bond by learning more about one another.
4. Build a fort: Everything is ten times more fun when you’re inside a fort! Everything.
5. Take a walk down memory lane: Read old cards you wrote to one another back in the day, look at past photos of the two of you, and share childhood memories with each other. Talk about what life was like when you were in the honeymoon phase of your relationship and discuss how far you’ve come together. Bonus: Use Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to envision the kind of future you’d like to create together.
6. Turn off your phones: Whatever you end up doing on V-Day, turn off your phones and any other electronic device that could detract from the evening. Give each other your undivided attention.
7. Have an indoor Nerf gun battle: Enough said. For the married couples.
